Reliable Heating & Air is an authorized installing and servicing dealer for all major brands of heating and cooling systems, but after many years of dealing with different makes and models, we have come to realize one manufacturer stands above therest in quality and reliability.

That name is Trane.

First and foremost, it is known as a durable, tough, "Hard to Stop" brand of equipment. Trane prides itself on thoroughly testing and designing the best product in the market as far as lifespan, efficiency and most importantly, not breaking down.

We feel Trane is one of the best manufacturers in the marketplace, but we are proud to also sell and service quality products from other companies.

Different Types of Furnaces

There are two different efficiency categories of furnaces available, regardless of brand and within those categories there are three basic types of furnaces. The two different efficiencies are furnaces that are 80% efficiency and those that are 90% efficiency and greater.

A furnace with a rating of 80% uses 80 cents of a dollar worth of gas to heat your home and 20 cents of that dollar goes up the chimney of your home. Furnaces in this range go all the way to 82% efficient.

Furnaces that are in the 90% efficient category range from 90% all the way up to

your home and only wastes 2.3 cents up the chimney.

Both efficiency categories have three different types of furnaces available and they are single stage, two stage and variable speed modulating furnaces.

Single Stage Furnaces

Single stage furnaces are designed to have enough heat output to keep you warm on the coldest day of the year by simply coming on or off. When they operate, they run wide open for a period of time and then shut on and off frequently.

The downside of this design is two-fold. First, all this heating up and shutting down is not efficient as heat is wasted during the cool down period. Second, the single stage furnace produces an up and down temperature swing in your home that is not very comfortable.

Two Stage Furnaces

Two stages furnaces were invented to even out the temperature swing caused by the single stage units. They have two distinct heat outputs and normally can heat your home on anything but the coldest day of the year on the low heat output setting.

The longer run time on low will more evenly heat your home and the articles in your home. The floors, walls, tables and people are heated instead of just quickly heating the air in your home and shutting off like a single stage furnace.

The downside of two stages furnaces is their longer run time can produce slightly higher electric bills from the fan or blower in the unit running more to even out the temperatures.

Variable Speed Furnaces

Variable speed furnaces take care of the furnace blower’s higher consumption on electricity by using a special D/C current motor to provide a modulating variable speed unit that is simply the best available heating source today. The variable speed furnace converts A/C current from you home to D/C current to allow the furnace to have infinite number of speeds and to run very efficiently.

The blower in a typical single stage or two stage furnace consumes approximately $275 a year in electricity while the variable speed blower uses only $30 a year to provide the correct amount of heated and cooled air to all your rooms.

There are many factors that affect the amount of air delivered to your rooms and many times a A/C powered furnace cannot give you the volume required for comfort.

The variable speed furnace can overcome the reasons for poor airflow to deliver the correct amount of heated and cooled air you need for comfort you have never know before.

The most exciting feature of the variable speed furnace for a humid climate like Georgia, is the built-in dehumidification system that is standard with every variable speed system Reliable installs.

We provide a special thermostat that measures not only temperature but also humidity levels inside your home. You set a desired humidity level at the thermostat and during times of high moisture levels, a signal is sent to the furnace to slow down and extract more moisture.

Up to 5 to 10 percent moisture can be extracted from your home saving you additional energy dollars and making you feel much more comfortable during the dog days of summer.

The drier it is in your home the warmer you can set the temperature and feel the same comfort, which will save you on cooling cost.

Many times people set the temperature lower than they would normally attempting to get comfortable, while what they really need to do is extract more moisture. The variable speed option takes care of this and does it automatically.

Another nice feature of the variable speed units are they obtain the most SEER rating or efficiency out of whatever air conditioner they are connected to.

Air conditioning efficiency is a by-product of how much electricity the outdoor compressor and fan motor consume and how much power is used by the indoor furnace blower. You can increase the efficiency of any one of these motors and increase the overall SEER of your cooling system.

The variable speed furnace accomplishes this and more providing the best comfort, energy savings and dehumidification available.
